Cannabis Industry Breaking News and Trends

As a solution provider to the cannabis industry, we follow industry news and trends closely.  This is important in any industry, but more so in the cannabis industry with its constantly shifting business landscape.

There are a multitude of ways to follow the cannabis industry including Podcasts, Newsletters and of course Publications. Three of the industry publications that we tend to follow are MJBiz, Gangapreneur and Cannabis Business Times.

We’ve surveyed our own staff to see what caught their interest and put together a list of a of recent articles from these three publications.  We thought we would share this list with our loyal followers – click on the links and enjoy!

Good News for Veterans – Not So Much for Florida

According to recent article in Gangapreneur the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) could finally let veterans participate in state-legal medical cannabis programs under a House-approved amendment to the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilConVA) Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations Bill.

Another piece of news that we picked up from Gangapreneur comes from the State of Florida.  Currently medical marijuana is legal in Florida and a recreational cannabis legalization initiative is on the ballot for this November, predicted to pass. Unfortunately, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is reportedly considering vetoing the legislature’s ban on products containing hemp-derived delta-8 THC and other intoxicating cannabinoids in hopes that the hemp industry will help defeat Florida’s upcoming cannabis legalization ballot initiative.

Rescheduling and DeScheduling News

Obviously, the title of this next article in the Cannabis Business Times caught our attention:   BIGGEST CANNABIS NEWS IN HALF CENTURY? According to the article, Senate Democrats Introduced a bill to federally legalize Cannabis.  The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act aims to deschedule marijuana by removing it from the Controlled Substances Act.

Another article from the Cannabis Business Times that caught our attention spoke to the recent announcement from the White Houe regarding the rescheduling of cannabis. Federal Marijuana Rescheduling on the Horizon: A Big Step Forward but Not the Be-All-End-All

AI in Cannabis and a Canadian Companies Confidence in the US market

No list of “current events” would be complete without an article on Artificial Intelligence (AI).  MJBiz had a nice piece earlier this month that we thought was relative.

Finally, the following article, also from MJBiz caught our attention for the fact that Canadian based Tilray, is looking to make a substantial investment in the US Market.  It appears they have a lot of confidence in the direction the US market is headed. Tilray seeks to raise $250 million for US marijuana acquisitions.  Canadian cannabis and beverage alcohol company Tilray Brands is preparing for marijuana reform in the United States with plans to raise up to $250 million through an at-the-market (ATM) equity program.
